Happy New Year
Submitted by naturalist on Fri, 2010/01/01 - 17:50.As a new year's gift to all dragonfly fans, I've prepared an animation of Common Blue Jewels in flight.
The file is 286 MB in size, so if you don't have broadband, don't click on the link below.
But if you do, right click on it and save it on your local disk. Then view it with any program that will display animated GIFs (on Linux I use gThumb).

Monads are easy
Submitted by colin on Sun, 2009/12/20 - 11:06.According to Haskell Weekly News Quotes of the Week: A 'newbie', in Haskell, is someone who hasn't yet implemented a compiler. They've only written a monad tutorial.
I haven't yet implemented a compiler (only an interpreter, and that wasn't written in Haskell either), but I've not written a monad tutorial either.

Linux on the Macbook Air
Submitted by colin on Sun, 2009/12/13 - 20:30.After returning from our holiday in Hong Kong, and uploading the photos stored on our Macbook Air to my Linux desktop, I was determined to dump Mac OSX once and for all, and install Linux on it instead (as the sole O/S - because of the need for a large amount of disk-space to store photos temporarily whilst on holiday, I can't fit two O/Ses on at once).
